Winchmore College Sixth Form Block Enfield
SWH were delighted to support the development of this modern sixth form centre in our role as BREEAM Assessors and Accredited Professionals (AP).
This project involved the construction of a new sixth form block at Winchmore College in Enfield, to provide the students and staff with high quality teaching, working and social spaces.
Scott White and Hookins were engaged in this project as BREEAM Assessor and AP at midway-late in the design process. Being involved at this stage meant we worked particularly hard to ensure that the design and construction teams could understand and implement as many later-stage credits as possible. We also supported the contractors with providing high quality evidential documentation.
Key sustainability measures implemented on this scheme included:
- the installation of air source heat pumps and Photovoltaic panels – to minimise the building's operational carbon emissions
- incorporating large glazing extents– to maximise solar gain
- installing highly efficient and dynamic internal lighting – to provide healthy learning spaces.
The design team has also ensured that durable materials and finishes are installed to minimise the need for replacement materials. They have also designed the building considering its ability to be disassembled, rather than demolished, at the end of its life.
