Westminster Central Hall London
SWH have provided structural engineering services for Westminster Central Hall for many years, supporting many refurbishment projects, including a £5.2 million upgrade of the 2350-seat Great Hall.
Scott White and Hookins has acted as Structural Engineers for the Trustees of this Grade II* listed building for many years, providing advice on structural alterations, building defects and repairs to the fabric.
Completed in 1912, it is a very early example of a major reinforced concrete building and contains one of the largest reinforced concrete domes in the world.
One of the most significant projects undertaken was the £5.2 million upgrading of the 2,350-seat Great Hall, which incorporated work in a variety of locations within the building including a rising stage, installation of new lifts, formation of openings, strengthening of handrailing and many other improvements.
Another significant phase of work was early in 2010 when the organ was removed for a full refurbishment and SWH undertook various structural projects in connection with this and associated work.
