Scott White and Hookins provided Structural and Civil Engineering, as well as Transport and Travel Consultancy services for the building which was let on a Design and Build contract basis.

This leisure facility serves both the University and the community and houses a large open plan double height hall/teaching space/social area, a separate large multi-purpose room, multiple changing facilities, office/medical room and kitchen/bar servery, together with all necessary associated plant room accommodation.

It is mainly single storey with a two storey area.

Its construction was a single ply membrane warm roof construction on timber joists supported on load bearing masonry external walls, suspended ground floor slab and traditional foundations.

It was necessary for the structural design to provide flexibility for the proposed and future usage and had to be designed with robustness and secure design considerations in mind.
