SUSTRANS Cycle Route University of Warwick
The new cycle route was designed to meet criteria from SUSTRANS, a national charity working to encourage people to walk and cycle more.
SWH were retained to undertake the structural design/detail drawings of the proposed cycle path route through the University of Warwick campus. This included the detailed horizontal and vertical design of the route, together with the drainage design and construction details and drawings.
SWH acted as engineering support to the landscape architects who were considering the route through the wider campus which would link the residential areas together.
The design of the cycleway needed to follow the criteria set down by SUSTRANS (SUStainable TRANSport), a national charity, whose aim is to encourage people to walk and cycle more.
In conjunction with the cycleway design, we also scheduled and monitored the demolition of redundant accommodation blocks, which lay in the path of the new route.
A number of road junctions were crossed by the route, where not only did we have to tie into the existing features but we had to allow for the provision of new lining and signs for the cycleway.
