SWH were involved from the outset and throughout construction to ensure the highest possible BREEAM rating for this modern office and laboratories. The end result is a sustainably designed and constructed building, with the end user's wellbeing in mind.
The high BREEAM rating achieved for this scheme is a testament to the team's early engagement, the client's sustainability drive, and key stakeholder collaboration on this scheme.
Not only did this apply for the design stage but this continued throughout construction as well. As a result of this, the project scored very well in the 'Management' section of BREEAM.
From the outset, the client brought SWH in to discuss the project's key sustainability considerations and opportunities.
The building was designed and constructed with the end user's wellbeing in mind- with CO2 sensors in occupied spaces, plenty of natural daylight, and a pleasant outside amenity space.
The project also benefits from low carbon technologies, including solar panels on the roof and air source heat pumps, as well as energy efficient lighting and lifts. The development provides a wealth of sustainable transport measures, including:
- electric car charging points
- car sharing spaces
- improved local cycle routes
- new cycle storage
- cyclist facilities.
Water has also been thoughtfully considered throughout the scheme, with low flow, efficient, fittings and rainwater harvesting being installed. The local ecology of the site has also significantly improved as a result of this scheme, providing a substantial increase in ecological value.
