Location and Communication
The role is for someone based at the SUTTON or WINCHESTER office. The person would report direct to the Engineering Manager(s) as well as the Director(s) and Associate(s) based at your office location.
Main Purpose of Job
As a Graduate Structural/Civil Engineer you would work on a wide variety of challenging and interesting projects covering many different construction sectors throughout the UK, including healthcare, commercial offices, education, retail, mixed use and residential schemes.
You would ensure that Scott White and Hookins continues to provide first class structural and civil engineering consultancy services, reflecting our passion for innovative and sustainable construction.
Main Responsibilities
- Enrol on our approved ICE Training Programme and commit to your career through training and continual professional development (CPD).
- Undertake engineering analysis and design calculations for structural and civil engineering projects using the practices latest technical software.
- Prepare structural and civil engineering drawings and models using the latest versions of AutoCAD or Revit.
- Contribute to the practices working groups, which include Technical, BIM, Sustainability, IT, Marketing or Quality Assurance.
- You would report to your project manager, ensuring that the work you are responsible for is properly and efficiently completed.
- You will attend design team meetings both remotely and on site, developing new and existing client relationships.
- It is expected that as you develop you will provide mentoring and training to new and more junior members of staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- Your degree should provide you with a BEng, BSc, MEng or MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering Degree from an ICE approved institution.
- Ability to convey and communicate engineering concepts, such as bending, deflectionand stability.
- Understanding of steel, masonry, timber and concrete structures, designed to the Eurocode.
- Understanding and experience of structural analysis software.
- An understanding of BIM and itsimportance in the construction industry would be advantageous.
- You may have attained research or experimental knowledge of developing areas of the construction industry as part of your third or fourth-year project(s).
- You should have experience in report writing, preparing technical drawings and presenting your ideas and concepts through presentations.
- You should have developed IT skills, including preparation of reports, emails and spreadsheets.
- Leadership skills would be advantageous.
- You will have developed personal development skills allowing you to undertake further training in office and your own time, allowing you to achieve CEng status.
